時は戦国天正元年。織田信長によって京から追放された足利義昭は紀州由良興国寺に幽閉されていた。湯川直春の勢力圏で信長に強い恨みを抱く義昭は椿姫を毛利家に密かに嫁がせ、毛利を味方に付けて信長に反旗を翻す計画を立てた。義昭は根来衆の女頭領であるお龍に椿姫の極秘輿入れを依頼する。椿姫の警護にあたるのは、おりんと皐月。二人は腕の立つ『くノ一』であった…。
