華のお江戸は貧乏人には冷たい街で、春は亭主の茂一を連れて、故郷の実家に帰ってきた。だが、お尋ね者となっていたので姉の麦に家を追い出された。行き場を無くした春夫妻は寺に住まわして貰う。春たちは、夫婦の営みを始める。その光景を寺の掃除扶、五作が覗いていた。五作は春を江戸から逃げてきた花魁と思い込み、村中の男達に言いふらす。そして、春は花魁に成りすまし、お寺の脇で帯解きプレイを見世物にし始める…。
