僕達夫婦が暮らすマンションの隣室には、近所の誰もが目を合わせたがらない、いわゆるひとつの「厄介な人」が住んでいました。いつも携帯で大声で怒鳴り散らして共有部分を歩き回るその困った隣人に、気弱な僕は、触らぬ神に祟り無し、のスタンスで、内心ビクビクしつつ、暮らしていました。そんなある日、管理費の集金のため、たまたま今年が役員だった妻が、隣人の部屋へと、日中ひとりで、渋々と赴いたらしいのです……。
