名古屋で呉服屋を営んでいる志保夫妻は経営難から、着物の展示販売会を日本を行脚して展開していた。経費節減のため夫がトラックを運転しての行商である。ある日、名古屋から仙台に移動中、トラックが東京で故障し立ち往生。志保は東京にいる姉・松枝の家にしばらく泊めてもらうことに。この機会に志保は東京に住む義息子でミュージシャン志望の正雄を訪ねに、姪っ子で大学生のいずみと行くのだが…。
