父の再婚の日。亡き母の墓前で立ちつくす清一郎。そこへ、お手伝いのとしえがやって来る。幼い頃より母のかわりとして、としえは清一郎に尽くしてきたので、何かにつけて父に反抗する清一郎を心配していた。しかし、清一郎が父に反抗する理由は、としえであった。幼い頃、母と慕っていたとしえを父が犯している現場を目撃した清一郎は、父の足をナイフで刺したのだった。
