妻・房枝が還暦を迎えて1年が経った晩秋。夫・三郎は房枝を久方振りの温泉旅行に誘った。仲が悪いわけではなかったが、思えば夫婦水入らずの時間なんて何年もなかった。老年を迎え、ささやかな二人の時間を作っていこうという三郎の心意気だった。何十年も連れ添っている二人は、言葉を交わさなくてもお互いの心の内が分かる……そしてこれからは、若かりし頃のようにとまでは行かなくても、触れ合いを多くしたい。そんな気持ちを携えながら、旅館に着き温泉に浸かり……夜、情熱を燃え上がらせるのだった。
