幼くして両親を事故で亡くした如月と弥生の姉妹はそれぞれ親戚に預けられ、お互い姉妹があることも知らずに育てられた。如月は実の娘のように育てられたが、弥生は親戚の借金の肩代わりに老人・間宮に引き取られ、今度結婚するという。その老人から便りが届き、事実を知った如月は妹の結婚を白紙にし引き取ろうと上京するが…。
